Abstract: Meets the need for a manual on malaria diagnosis that brings together the most recent knowledge about the biology of plasmodia, their behaviour in their anopheline vectors, and human response to infection. The book features nine chapters, moving from descriptions of different stages in the life cycle of malaria parasites to chapters covering the clinical features of infection, microscopic diagnosis, methods for the detection of malaria parasites, immunodiagnosis, and laboratory techniques. Throughout, an effort is made to present clinical information clearly and simply, with the goal of facilitating the integration of malaria prevention and control programmes into general health services. Practical guidelines and explanations are supplemented by 40 pages of colour plates, photographs, charts, and diagrams illustrating fundamental diagnostic and laboratory techniques.
