The report has three parts. The first provides an overview of health conditions and trends throughout the region. Trends identified include progress in the development of health systems, improvements in access to basic health services, declining infant mortality rates, and a steady reduction in deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases. Key health problems in the region include persistent loss of life from malnutrition, infectious diseases, and other preventable causes, increasing rates of injury and disability caused by accidents, and increases in diseases related to aging populations, changing lifestyles, and growing industrialization. Country profiles are presented in part two. The final part consists of comparative tabular information, provided for each country and area, on ten indicators of health for all.
