Abstract: A collection of four state-of-the-art reviews covering available technologies for the treatment and disposal of solid wastes. The first chapter presents a model code of practice for assuring sound operational practice in the disposal of waste on land. The second chapter, devoted to composting, describes principles, applications, plant and machinery requirements, and technical procedures for the use of composting as an alternative to incineration or landfill. Incineration is covered in the third chapter, which provides full technical details on the design, specifications, operation, investment and maintenance costs of different municipal incinerators. The book concludes with a chapter devoted to the special problems of waste and wastewaters generated by animal feedlots. Technologies for the reuse and disposal of animal waste are presented in detail.
