A computer diskette, accompanied by a user s guide, designed to help cancer registry personnel and researchers convert codes from previous editions of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O) to the most recent revisions (ICD-10 and ICD-O-2). The diskette contains six programs for conversion from several alternative systems: ICD-O-1 to ICD-9; ICD-O Field Trial Edition to ICD-9; ICD-O-2 to ICD-9, ICD-O-1 to ICD-O-2; ICD-O-2 to ICD-O-1; and ICD-O-2 to ICD-10. By providing a comprehensive conversion utility, the programs aim to make it easier to convert data from a range of different systems and thus to compare cases coded using different versions of ICD and ICD-O. The user s guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and running the programs. Each program runs in two modes: interactive or batch. The interactive mode permits users to rapidly check any conversion. The batch program creates three output files: the output data file, with the symbols and new codes written at the end of each record; an error file; and a definition file. The guide also describes basic rules which apply to all conversion programs, and rules which apply only to the four programs for converting from ICD-O to ICD-9 and ICD-10.
