Summary, etc. |
Presents detailed technical guidelines intended to assist those responsible for the development and management of family planning and health programmes in introducing injectable hormonal contraceptives and increasing their availability. Injectable contraceptives, which are currently licensed for use in over 100 countries, are known to be among the most effective methods of contraception available. The book has nine main chapters. Readers are first given background technical information about the effects of injectables and related medical issues, including both advantages and common side-effects as determined through more than 15 years of clinical investigation. The remaining chapters offer guidance on organizing, managing, and evaluating a programme using injectable contraceptives. Topics covered include equipment, supplies and staffing, communication with clients, and medical screening, administration of injectables, and post-injection advice and care. The book concludes with instructions for calculating the number of users of contraceptive services and a list of indicators fr evaluating the effectiveness of a programme. |
