A detailed assessment of research areas and methods of investigation needed to achieve each of 38 health targets adopted by countries in the European region. Emphasis is placed on the need to establish research priorities within the context of a well-defined plan of action for improving the health of Europeans. With this goal in mind, the book discusses research needs implicit in individual health targets grouped according to five main topics: support of health development, appropriate health care, environmental health, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and the ambitious goal of health for all in Europe. Series of questions are used to help the scientific community perceive ways in which their own research interests can tie in with suggested projects.
