A critical review of medical and epidemiological data relevant to the question of whether workers using visual display terminals are exposed to special health risks. The book, which records the conclusions and recommendations of an international working group, cites well over 300 studies in an effort to settle controversies concerning which suspected risks are unsubstantiated, which are substantiated, and which preventive actions are necessary, whether in the design of equipment or the advice given to pregnant women. Throughout, emphasis is placed on health problems that may be caused or aggravated by the use of cathode ray tube-based terminals in an office environment. Data on other technologies, such as those using plasma or liquid crystal, are also considered.
