Topics discussed include the continuing development of The International Pharmacopoeia, the establishment of International Chemical Reference Substances and International Infrared Reference Spectra, and the problem of substandard quality of several widely used drug substances. The report also issues recommendations concerning the small-scale preparation of eye drops, and a warning concerning the production of oral and injectable hormonal contraceptives in the absence of well established local programmes of drug regulation and quality assurance. Annexed to the report are guidelines for good manufacturing practices for biological products and up-dated lists of available Chemical Reference Substances and International Infrared Reference Spectra
