The most extensive section provides a critical review of the methodology and findings of all experimental and epidemiological data relevant to carcinogenic risk assessment. The second monograph examines the risks to workers and the general population caused by the ubiquitous presence of radon-222 and its short-lived decay products. Sources of domestic exposure are clarified through a review of studies, conducted in 17 countries, evaluating exposures related to geological formations, construction materials, and features of housing design. The monograph concludes that radon and its decay products are carcinogenic to humans.
