In nine main chapters, the book reviews recent developments in the handling, transport, treatment and disposal of health care waste and recommends specific practices that can help protect the health of patients, staff at all levels, and the general public. Topics range from the special problems raised by items that could cause a cut or puncture, through cautions concerning the reclamation and recycling of hazardous chemical waste, to recommended methods for the disposal of radioactive waste. Emphasis is placed on the need for waste management systems to segregate pathological, infectious, and hazardous chemical waste from other categories of waste.
